Description
The gate, gate piers, and adjoining walls at Ilam Park were built around 1830, likely by James Trubshawe. The structure features ashlar walls and a cast iron gate. On the right side of the drive, there is a small pedestrian gate set within a four-centred arch, flanked by two octagonal turrets. The left turret is one of the former main gate piers, while the right turret is taller and crenellated. These turrets are connected by a crenellated parapet and a parapet string. To the far right, there is a smaller diamond section crenellated turret and a stretch of coped wall that is approximately 30 yards long. The left side of the drive originally had a similar arrangement but is now partly demolished, leaving a stump of an octagonal turret on the right, which is linked to a small diamond section turret by a short wall, both of which are crenellated. Adjoining to the left is another stretch of coped wall, also around 30 yards long. The remains of the main gateway maintain a good visual relationship with the Lodge located immediately behind it.
