Description
School House, built around 1855 by George Gilbert Scott, is a two-storey building designed in a vernacular revival style. The structure features coursed and squared rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings on the ground floor, while the upper storey is characterized by close studded timber framing. The roof is covered with clay tiles and has ashlar stacks of octagonal shape with crenellated caps.
On the main range, the ground floor has two three-light stone mullioned windows with rebated surrounds that contain leaded casements. The first floor boasts a five-light oriel window with wooden mullions and tracery. The gable end of the main range to the left is jettied and displays diamond pattern framing and cusped barge boards. To the right, there is a lean-to porch that features an ogee headed board door.
This building is an important part of the picturesque estate village that Scott rebuilt in the 1850s.
