Description
Upper Birch Row is a row of three cottages built in the late 18th century and early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed, squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins. The cottages feature a stone slate roof with stone gable ends and ridge stacks, and have stone-coped gables with moulded kneelers. Each cottage is two storeys high and consists of a single bay.
Cottages 1 and 2, dating from the late 18th century, form a pair with quoins on the west side. They have adjoining flush doorcases with 20th-century doors and two-light flush mullion windows on either side, with two similar windows above. Cottage 3, an early 19th-century addition, is in a similar style and has a flush doorcase with a 20th-century door to the west, along with two-light flush mullion windows to the east and similar windows above.
