Description
Binn Edge Farmhouse and the attached barn to the south date from the late 18th century. The buildings are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with quoins and feature a pronounced rough plinth. They have a pitched stone slate roof and two ashlar gable stacks with moulded copings, one of which has a single good ashlar pot.
The farmhouse is two storeys high. On the west elevation, the ground floor includes two entrances (one of which is partly blocked and the other is recent), a 4-light stone mullioned window (recessed with one flush mullion), two 2-light stone mullioned windows (both recessed), and a 3-light stone mullioned window (recessed with one mullion removed). The first floor has a 6-light stone mullioned window (recessed with one flush mullion) and two 3-light stone mullioned windows (both recessed).
The barn features a large central doorway with a lintel and quoins, as well as a small doorway with a millstone grit surround. The south gable has a single storey extension and two 2-light stone mullioned windows (with the mullions removed) on the first floor. The east elevation shows two former doorways.
