Description
Higher Ashen Clough Barn is a 17th-century barn located on Maynestone Road in the parish of Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside. The barn is constructed from coursed gritstone rubble and features massive quoins and gritstone dressings, topped with a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high.
The west elevation, facing the street, has a central doorcase with a chamfered quoined surround and a massive lintel. To the south, there is an inserted door with a flush surround, and above it, an opening leads to the hayloft. The south wall is marked by ventilation slits. Inside, the barn has two queen strut trusses and massive purlins.
