Description
Rookery Cottage is an 18th-century cottage constructed from coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings. It features a stone slate roof at the front and a slate roof at the rear, along with short stone gable end stacks. The gable on the west side is stone coped and has a moulded kneeler. The cottage is two storeys high with a double pile plan and consists of three bays.
The central bay is advanced and full height, featuring a canted bay with a pyramidal roof and a central segmental headed doorcase that includes a plank door. To the east, there was originally a 3-light flush mullion window, which has been replaced with horizontal sliding sashes. The west side has a 2-light flush mullion window fitted with 20th-century leaded lights. There is also a plank door in a flush surround on this side.
On the upper floor, there are two 2-light flush mullion windows with original leaded lights, positioned on either side of the bay window. The bay has glazing bar sashes on three sides and a plain sill band. At the rear, there is a blocked 2-light mullion and transomed stair window, along with various other 2-light flush mullion windows.
