Description

The Trustees Savings Bank, built in 1848, is a single-storey bank located on Bath Street in Bakewell. It features herringbone-tooled sandstone with ashlar dressings and has a Welsh slate roof, showcasing a classical architectural style. The building has three bays and includes a plinth with corniced pilasters at the corners and between the bays. The central doorcase is pilastered and contains 20th-century metal doors set within a moulded stone architrave, topped by a plain entablature with a blocking course. The outer bays have projecting stone sills and moulded architraves framing large 6/6 sash windows. The main entablature displays the words 'SAVINGS BANK, 1848' in raised lettering on the frieze, and there is a moulded cornice with a blocking course. A corniced ashlar ridge stack is located at the centre of the hipped roof, which features rolled lead ridges. The interior has not been inspected.
