Description
Abbots Grove is a house dating from the early 19th century, situated in the parish of Hartington, Middle Quarter Sterndale Lane. The construction is of coursed squared limestone with sandstone dressings and quoins. It has a stone slate roof and stone gable end and ridge stacks with plain bands. The building follows a double pile plan, with a three-bay south elevation. The central doorcase is quoined and contains a 20th-century glazed door, sheltered by an elaborate porch with chamfered square piers supporting a stone canopy. The porch front features an incised segmental arch with a decorated keystone. Flat copings are present on the sides above the arch. The central section is raised and features rock-faced limestone, topped by a triangular finial, with similar finials marking the corners. The side elevations are plain. The south elevation has glazing bar sashes in quoined surrounds, with three matching windows above.
