SK 17 SE PARISH OF LITTON CRESSBROOK UPPER LANE 3/45 (North Side) 63 - 65 Top Cottages (Consec) GV II

Terrace of three mill-workers' cottages. c1843. Probably by Weightman & Hadfield. Coursed squared limestone with gritstone dressings and quoins. Welsh slate roofs, with wooden bargeboards and finials. Two large, paired stacks rising from the pitch of the roof. Two storeys. South elevation of three gabled bays, the centre projecting bay taller. Centre bay has a 3-light chamfered mullion window to ground floor with dripmould and diamond lights. First floor has a similar 2-light window and in the gable a single light window with C20 glazing. The right hand bay has two C20 windows with chamfered stone surrounds and dripmoulds. Left hand bay has a 2-light chamfered mullion window with dripmould and a single light window with dripmould above. The cottages form part of the mill settlement built to serve Cressbrook Mill. They form part of a symmetrical composition with Nos 59 - 62 and Nos 66 - 69 Top Cottages. Listed for group value only.
