SK 17 SE PARISH OF LITTON CRESSBROOK UPPER LANE 3/50 (South Side) 46 - 49 Middle Row (Consec) GV II

Terrace of four mill-workers' cottages, c 1845, probably by Weightman & Hadfield. Coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings and vermiculated quoins. Welsh slate roof with wooden bargeboards and finials. Four paired stone ridge stacks. Two storeys. Symmetrical six bay south elevation. Centre two bays have two 3-light chamfered mullion windows to ground floor and two similar 2-light windows above. Flanked by advanced gabled bays with two single light windows and a door to the ground floor and a 2-light window above. Outer bays have a 3-light window with a 2-light window above. Some of the windows have their original diamond lights. The cottages form part of the mill settlement built to serve Cressbrook Mill. They form part of a symmetrical composition with Nos 40 - 43 and Nos 44 - 45 Middle Row.
