Description

Calver Bridge is a road bridge built around 1800. It features a triple arch design made of ashlar gritstone, with symmetrical elevations and segmental arches that are separated by rounded cutwaters topped with domed heads. There are moulded hoodmoulds above the arches and a moulded stringcourse at the base of the parapets, which step out around the pilaster buttresses that rise from the cutwaters. The bridge has a plain cambered parapet with oversailing copings that have chamfered edges. The curving abutment walls end in square piers with plain square caps. This bridge replaced a previous structure that was destroyed in a flood in August 1799.
