Description
The Manor House, formerly known as The Old Hall, is a house built in 1661 with a later addition. It is constructed of rendered stone with gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with a stone slate roof that features occasional glass slates on the southern pitch. The building has a central stone ridge stack and a similar stack on the north wall.
This two-storey, two-bay structure has a lobby entrance plan and a semi-circular external newel staircase on the south side. In the 19th century, a single-storey, single-bay addition was added to the north. The east gable wall features a central four-light window that is deeply recessed with ovolo moulded mullions, a major central mullion, and a returned hoodmould above, which is stepped up in the center over a plaque inscribed 'AP 1661'. Above this, there is a three-light window with similar detailing. The original 17th-century diamond leaded lights are present in all windows except for the lower southernmost light.
On the south elevation, the central semi-circular external staircase has a small diamond light near its base. The east side has a blank wall, while the west side has a three-light deeply recessed window with ovolo moulding and a returned hoodmould above, along with a similar window above it that retains its original 17th-century leaded lights. There is a doorcase, now rendered over, opposite the staircase on the north elevation. The northern addition features a doorcase flanked by casement windows.
Inside, the lower room has a moulded beam supported by stone corbels, and there is a stone newel staircase to the south. All interior windows are ovolo moulded as well.
