Description
Holly Cottage, also known as Holly House, is a house from the early to mid-19th century located on South Church Street in Bakewell. It is built from coursed, dressed sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a concrete tile roof. The building has two storeys and a two-window range, with a single-storey one-bay side wing set back on the left. Notable architectural features include large quoins, a doorway to the right of centre with a raised-edge architrave beneath a moulded cornice, and a six-panel door with the top two lights glazed. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, projecting stone sills, and raised-edge architraves. The eaves have a band that leads to a hipped roof, which has a renewed ashlar end stack on the left. The side wing contains a blocked doorway and a sash window with glazing bars. Inside, the house retains its original staircase with turned newels, square rods, and a ramped handrail, along with some original six-panel doors and architraves.
