Description

This monument, located 10 meters southeast of St Anne's Church, is a Grade II listed structure dedicated to Robert Stafford, dating from 1702. It is made of gritstone ashlar and designed in the shape of a coffin. The top features relief carvings of an hourglass, a serpent eating its tail, crossbones, and wings. At the foot, there is a skull and crossbones also carved in relief, and stone lifting rings are carved at both ends. The coffin is supported by a rectangular chamfered base. An inscription on the top reads, "Here lyeth the body of Robert Stafford who was buried here March ye 20th Anno 1702 aged 78. Surgite Mortui."
