Description
The lychgate to the churchyard of Baslow Parish Church was built in 1890 and is constructed from sandstone ashlar and timber. It features a plain tile roof with small gabled ventilators and has a square plan. The walls are made of ashlar to half height, topped with chamfered copings. The timber superstructure includes diagonal panelling beneath a middle rail, with open trefoil arched lights above, four on each side, extending around each corner for one bay. The openwork gables are supported by double curved braces, and there is a trefoiled arch over the entrance adorned with foliage carving. The bargeboards have carved inscriptions, with one side dedicated to Mary Wilson of Sheffield, stating "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord for they rest from their Labour," and the other side marking the year "Anno Domini 1890," along with carved leaf motifs. The lychgate also features panelled gates with open trefoil motifs.
