Description
A row of eight houses located on Buxton Road in Bakewell, built in the early 19th century. The houses are constructed of deeply-coursed sandstone with stone slate and concrete tile roofs. The row presents an eleven-window facade, with two storeys. Most houses have a single window to the first floor, except for number 1, which has three, and number 5, which has two. The windows are generally 2/2 sashes, with two 8/8 sashes at number 5 and 20th-century casements at numbers 4 and 7. The window surrounds are ashlar, with projecting sills; numbers 1 and 2 have window surrounds incorporating bonding stones. Doorways are centrally positioned at numbers 1 and 5, and to the right of the window at numbers 2 and 4; the remaining houses have a doorway to the left. The row has various stone ridge stacks, with bands; the largest is on the party wall between numbers 1 and 2, and there are end stacks. The roofline of number 1 is lower than the others. The interiors have not been inspected.
