Description
The gates, terrace, and attached walls to the south of Eyam Hall date from the late 17th century and are made of gritstone and iron. There are three semi-circular steps leading up to the central gates, which are flanked by square piers featuring raised bands and decorative panels with incised motifs. The piers have a moulded cornice topped with large banded ball finials. The early 20th-century iron gates are designed in an 18th-century style.
On either side of the gates, there are coursed square gritstone walls with chamfered copings, and scrolled wing brackets connect the piers to the copings. To the west, there is a later quoined chamfered gateway through the wall, which includes moulded square capitals and a wooden gate styled in a 17th-century manner.
Attached to the north are stepped gritstone walls that connect to the house at the western and eastern corners of the 1676 section. Near the house, there are chamfered flush quoined doorcases to the east and west, both featuring raised, fielded, and panelled doors. The eastern door leads to a flight of five semi-circular steps down to the garden. In front of the house, there is a raised paved terrace with a coursed squared gritstone retaining wall that has chamfered copings and a central flight of steps.
