Description

Great Batch is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with gritstone dressings and quoins, and features a stone slate roof. The house has stone ridge and gable end stacks, including a large stone stack that rises through the roof on the west side.

The building is three storeys tall and has an L-plan layout. The street-facing elevation has double gables, with the ground floor covered by a 20th-century conservatory. Above the conservatory, there is a 4-light recessed and chamfered mullioned and transomed window on the west side, and a similar 3-light window to the east of the central valley. Further east, there is a 19th-century recessed and chamfered 2-light mullion window. In the west gable, there is a 3-light recessed and chamfered window.

The garden facade to the east also features double gables and has a central 19th-century stone porch. To the south of the porch, there is an advanced bay with a 19th-century 5-light recessed and chamfered mullion and transomed window, and a similar window is located north of the porch. Above the porch, there is a 19th-century 3-light mullioned stair window with two transoms. To the north, there is a 19th-century 4-light recessed and chamfered mullioned and transomed window, while to the south, there are two 19th-century recessed and chamfered mullion windows. In the north gable, there is an original 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, and a similar 19th-century window is found in the south gable.
