Description
Sough Mill and the adjacent sluice gate are a corn mill and sluice gate from the 18th century. They are constructed from random limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and feature steeply pitched stone slate roofs. The mill is two storeys tall, with a lower two-storey section to the north and a single-storey lean-to to the east. The east elevation includes an advanced lean-to to the south, a flush doorcase, and a flush opening above to the north. There is a recessed section to the north with a lean-to against the ground floor and a single flush opening above. Inside, there are remains of early 19th-century wooden machinery, including a single pair of stones. To the west, there is a gritstone weir with a wooden sluice gate in the center. The site of this mill has been in use since 1529.
