Description

The Saddleworth War Memorial is a war memorial erected by the people of Saddleworth in 1923. It was designed by architect C.B. Howcroft and built by C. Winterbottom. The memorial is constructed of ashlar and features a large obelisk set on a stylobate, with rolls of honour attached to each side. Each face of the obelisk is adorned with a carved sword, a reeded band, and a wreath. One of the inscriptions on the memorial reads, "True love by life - true love by death is tried. Live thou for England - we for England died."
