Description

Rock House is a house that dates from the early to mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. It is constructed from gritstone ashlar and coursed squared gritstone, featuring gritstone dressings and chamfered quoins. The roof is covered with stone slate and some concrete tiles from the 20th century, and it has stone gable end stacks. The gables are stone coped with plain kneelers and topped by ball finials. The early 18th-century section has a plinth and a coved eaves cornice, while the mid-18th-century section includes an additional plain eaves band.

The eastern part of the house is three storeys high with three bays, and it has a plain doorcase with raised jambs on either side, supporting a bracketed stone hood and an 18th-century panelled door. Flanking the door are glazing bar sashes in flush surrounds with raised fillets at the edges. Above the door, there are two similar sashes with a fixed glazing bar light in a moulded surround, and above that, a central circular window in a moulded surround. On either side, there are shallow uneven glazing bar sashes in similar surrounds.

To the west is the mid-18th-century wing, which features an early 20th-century canted bay in the centre, with glazing bar sashes in raised surrounds on all sides. On either side of the bay are similar sashes, and above, there are two more similar windows.
