Description

The Birdhopecraig United Reformed Church, formerly a Scottish Presbyterian church, was built in 1826. It is constructed from ashlar stone with a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical design of three bays by three bays. The central entrance features a pair of boarded doors with an overlight set in chamfered reveals. Above the door is a panel inscribed "BIRDHOPE CRAIG SCOTCH CHURCH 1826". Later 20th-century windows are set within the original, chamfered openings designed to a domestic scale. The eaves project and are supported by close-set, rounded corbels. The roof is hipped. The side returns also feature similar detailing. Inside, a gallery with a panelled parapet runs around three sides of the room, supported by square, corniced columns. A contemporary, panelled pulpit is centrally located.
