Description

The Bastle is a bastlehouse dating from the 16th or early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is constructed of random rubble with a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high and comprises two bays. A 20th-century glass porch is located on the right side. Above the porch is a sash window within the roll-moulded surround of the original first-floor doorway. To the left are two sash windows set in alternating-block surrounds. The gabled roof has flat coping and a corniced stack at the left end.

On the right return, the original ground-floor doorway is now a window, retaining its roll-moulded jambs, a renewed lintel, and the original relieving arch. At the rear, a chamfered slit window is visible on the first floor. The walls are approximately 4 feet thick.
