Description
No. 22 High Street is a house dating from the first half of the 18th century, although it has earlier origins. It is constructed from massive sandstone blocks and features a pantile roof with brick stacks. The layout includes a hearth-passage entry, with one room to the left and two rooms to the right. The principal hearth is located to the right of the cross passage. The house is two storeys high and has three windows on the first floor. The entrance features a 20th-century half-glazed door with a wooden lintel. The windows are three-light Yorkshire sashes with stone sills and lintels, while the first floor has two-light Yorkshire sashes. The roof level changes to the right of the hearth-passage, and there are gable end and ridge stacks. Inside, the principal hearth has a bressumer supported by a witch post.
