Description
Slidney-Beck Farmhouse is a farmhouse, likely derived from a longhouse, dating from the mid-18th century and modified in the later 18th century. It is constructed from coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone and features a plinth and stepped eaves, topped with an asbestos roof. The building has a double-pile hearth-passage plan and stands two storeys high.
The entrance front has four bays, with a door in a chamfered surround located in the third bay. To the left of the door is a small window, and to the right is a 20th-century casement window, with a late 19th-century casement window above. There is a boarded door at the far left, accompanied by a wide and a narrow chamfered stone-mullioned window to its right, featuring early 19th-century sashes with glazing bars. Above, there are two similar larger sashes. A later pent extension is located on the right.
The character of the farmhouse is more clearly visible from the garden front, which has a half-glazed door leading to the through-passage. The section on the right includes a fire window (backing onto the passage) and two three-light stone-mullioned windows, although the mullions have been removed and replaced with plain 20th-century casements. Above, there are two 19th-century sashes in gabled half-dormers. The former byre section on the left has two small 20th-century casements.
Inside, there is a chamfered house doorway off the through-passage, with later 18th-century doors and a panelled passage partition. The sitting room features a boxed-in fire beam and joists with quarter-round moulding.
