Description
Beeston Cottage and Auburn Cottage are a pair of houses located on Tommy Baxter Street in Robin Hood's Bay. They have an early 19th-century appearance, but a painted board displaying the date 1652 suggests they may have an earlier core. The buildings are constructed from finely-tooled coursed sandstone and feature a pantiled roof. Each house has two storeys and an attic, with one wide bay. The doors are paired in the center, with Beeston Cottage having a four-panel door and Auburn Cottage featuring a 20th-century half-glazed door.
Beeston Cottage, on the left, has sixteen-pane sash windows with projecting cills on each floor, while Auburn Cottage has plain sashes with projecting cills. Both houses have undergone alterations at the top; originally, they had an upper half-storey with windows just below the eaves, but these openings have been blocked and large dormers have been added—four-light on the left and three-light on the right. The cottages are included for their group value.
