Description
White Cottage is a house located on Main Street in Pockley, North Yorkshire. The datestone on the stack indicates it was built in 1717, although it has earlier origins and a 20th-century extension. The structure features a cruck frame, whitewashed limestone rubble, and a thatched roof with brick stacks. It is a hearth-passage longhouse consisting of four bays of frame. The main door has been blocked, and a modern entrance has been added at the right end.
The house is one storey high. In the first bay, there is a 20th-century fixed window and a three-light Yorkshire sash window. The second bay contains a three-light casement window and a fixed six-pane fire window. The third bay features a 20th-century fixed window in the position of a former door and a two-light Yorkshire sash window. The fourth bay has a casement window. There is a 20th-century panelled door in the extension to the right. Wooden lintels are present throughout the building, and the roof is hipped to the left.
Inside, all three pairs of internal crucks remain; the second and third pairs are full crucks, while the fourth is a half-cruck.
