Description
Bees Nest Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century. It features a cob faced exterior with coursed rubble sandstone and a pantile roof, along with brick stacks. The original layout was a single-cell, direct-entry plan with doors on opposite sides and a rear outshut. There have been later extensions added to both the left and right sides. The building is one-and-a-half stories tall and has a two-window front. Stone steps lead up to a plank door located to the left of the center. The windows are predominantly two-light horizontal sliding sashes with glazing bars, except for a three-light sliding sash with glazing bars on the upper left. All lower openings have inserted herringbone-tooled keyed lintels. The gable walls are coped, with moulded kneelers and end stacks supporting the steeply-pitched roof. Inside, there are exposed square-section beams in the ground floor rooms, and the owners mention that there is a cruck in the roof.
