Description

The Old Hall is a house built in 1586, with an 18th-century kitchen extension. It features large, squared sandstone in slightly uneven courses, while the extension is made of coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone. The roofs are pantiled with stone ridges, copings, and kneelers, and there are brick and stone stacks. The building has two storeys and three bays, with the right bay projecting slightly. To the left, there is a plank door beneath a pent hood supported by brackets. The right side has a six-light chamfered mullioned-and-transomed window under a hoodmould, and a four-light similar window to the left. Above the door is a single light window, with two-light mullioned windows on the first floor to the right and a three-light mullioned and transomed window to the left. The roof is very high-pitched with end chimneys, the left one being brick. The kitchen on the left is a single storey and has a boarded door and a casement window under a keyed lintel. There are also mullioned windows on the first floor at the rear. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted for high-quality woodwork, including richly moulded beams and joists, as well as 18th-century wall paintings.
