Description
The outbuilding to the west of York House is a former linear farmhouse with a byre, now serving as a lambing shed, dating from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of coursed squared tooled sandstone and features a pantiled roof with stone copings. The building is one storey with a loft, which has been created by raising the walls five courses in larger stonework, and it consists of four bays.
In the right bay, there is a stable door with a heavy lintel and massive quoins, along with a small casement to the right of the loft door above. The second bay contains a partly-blocked doorway that is splayed internally and was originally a window, with a loft door above it. The third bay has a similar loft door and a partly-blocked fire window below. The left bay features another stable door with large quoins and vent slits above in the raised courses.
Inside, the outline of the original firehood or chimney can be seen in the stonework against the left partition wall, reaching nearly to the roof ridge. The rear wall includes a three-light chamfered stone-mullioned window, although one mullion has been lost.
There is a small shelter shed projecting at the front left, but it is not of special interest.
