Description
Incline Cottage and the attached yard wall are a pair of cottages that have been converted into a single dwelling, built around 1845 by G.T. Andrews, who was the architect for the York and North Midland Railway Company. The building is constructed from hammered sandstone with a plinth, tooled sandstone quoins, and dressings, topped with a slate roof.
The cottage is two stories high with a two-window front and features a one-story entrance bay on the left. The entrance bay has a four-panel door that is accessed by a flight of steps. The main front displays 12-pane sash windows with painted stone sills, and all openings are adorned with bordered tooled lintels. The eaves are overhanging and supported by shaped brackets, and there is a central chimney stack.
Old railway lamps are attached to the left of the door and in the center of the main front. A cast iron pump is located beneath a timber shelter in the center of the main front. On the left side, there is a round-arched window with small-pane glazing in the gable end. At the rear, a yard is enclosed by a wall that is approximately 1.5 meters high and features a flat coping.
