Description

The Forest Heath Hotel, dating to circa 1885, was constructed during the development of the railway line to Bournemouth. It is a brick building with moulded brick detailing, plastered gables, and a plain tile roof. The hotel is two storeys and has an attic, with a low wing extending to the rear. The front elevation features a central bay with a paired three-centred gauged arch, each half glazed to the side panels and with a glazed panel above. A balcony sits above, supported by central timber posts with brackets. To the right is a two-storey canted bay with cambered-headed sashes on the ground floor and wider sashes on the first floor, topped with a cornice. The left bay has a ground floor rectangular bay window with rounded corners, featuring a Shavian-style glazed end fascia. On the first floor, there's a cambered-head sash with an apron and raised key. Above, to the centre and right bays, are inverted ‘M’ shaped plastered gables with a pair of five-light casements extending across, featuring round-headed centre lights and timber pilasters at each end and in the centre. A similar bay is present on the left end, with a pair of sashes on the first floor. From the first floor, corner pilasters rise to a Dutch gable with wide attic casements and moulded sunflower panels above.
