Description
Hilltop House is a house with origins dating back to the 16th century, located on the site of a former monastic grange. It was remodeled around 1700 and altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of rubble stone with brick dressings and has a plain tile roof. It is two stories tall with an attic and originally featured three bays, with a hip bay added to one end and a wing at the rear. The front has an additional hip bay on the right-hand side.
In the center bay of the original section, there is a 19th-century gabled brick arch with a pointed opening. On the right-hand side, there is a 19th-century rectangular hip-roofed bay window with five lights facing the front. The end bays have 12-pane sash windows, with the right-hand window set in a flush frame. A brick band runs along the first floor. The first floor features two-light casements, except for a three-light casement above the bay window. All windows are set in brick-framed openings.
The roof has two-light gabled dormers over each bay and is hipped to the right. There are stacks at either end of the original part, with an additional flue on the right-hand stack.
