Description
Rookhowe Farmhouse is a farmhouse from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with later alterations. It has an attached stable with a hayloft above, a byre, a barn with a threshing floor, and a WC. The house features a limewashed roughcast render over stone rubble, while the outbuildings are made of stone rubble. The roof is covered with graduated green slate and has a stone ridge, with a chimney at one end. There is a small shelter shed at the front of the byre on the left, which is roofed with corrugated asbestos. The building is two storeys high and has three windows. The ground floor includes an early 19th-century fixed light window with a single opening pane, a late 19th-century casement window to the right, and two 19th-century casement windows to the left, one of which may have been enlarged for a fire window. The farmhouse has a gabled stone porch with a roof made of large slates, side benches, and a top-glazed and panelled door. Inside, there are chamfered beams and joists in the hall, flagstone floors, and a fire beam. The WC is a two-seater. An extension to the rear of the house and the outbuildings to the right dates from 1860.
