Description
Rookyards Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse, with a later 19th-century extension. It is L-shaped. The main range is timber-framed and brick-faced, with an unusual bond pattern of two stretchers and one header to each course. The rear gable and upper part of the rear wall are rendered. A two-storey brick wing extends southwards from the east end, constructed in a 19th-century English bond. The roof is tiled, with fluted bargeboards and spike finials to the gables. Two internal chimney stacks are present, one with a plain shaft and the other with a rebuilt shaft of four diagonally-set chimneys. The main range has three three-light and one five-light casement windows on each floor, and similar windows are present in the wing. These windows are of a mullion-and-transome design, with pintle hinges and segmental arches to the frames and surrounds. Two single-storey gabled brick porches provide access, with doors having six flush panels, the top two glazed; one door abuts the principal chimney stack. The building appears to have a lobby-entrance plan and sits on a site with the remains of a moat.
