Description
Nos. 2, 3 and 4 Stone Street form the middle three of a row of five cottages, demonstrating elements from the 16th and 17th centuries. The cottages are timber-framed with roughcast rendering and clay pantiled roofs. No. 2 has two storeys and attics, featuring a dormer with a single-pitch roof and a three-light casement window. It also has three-light casement windows with small panes to each storey, and a single-light window to the side of the entrance. A plank door is set within a plain surround, protected by a metal segmental arched porch roof. Nos. 3 and 4 are two-storey structures; an internal chimney stack links No. 3 with No. 2. No. 4 has an internal stack on the north side. Both have plain red brick chimney shafts that have been rebuilt. Nos. 3 and 4 originally formed one house and appear to represent the original core of the row, exhibiting a basic two-cell end-chimney form. No. 2 displays the characteristic appearance of a 17th century parlour wing added to an earlier house. Entry was refused, but the interiors are reportedly characterised by exposed timbering. The remaining cottages in the row are not considered to possess significant historic or architectural interest.
