Description
The barn at the rear of Slough Farmhouse dates from the early 17th century. It is timber-framed, with parts plastered, weatherboarded, and some sections featuring later brick walling, all covered with clay pantiles. The structure consists of six corresponding bays, with the east gable and the two eastern bays having been replaced with red brick walls. The remaining walls have widely spaced studs and no middle rail. At the west end, there are long arched braces halved against the studs. Some tie-beams have been cut, while the ones that remain feature long arched braces. The roof includes one row of unstepped butt purlins, upper clasped purlins, and straight windbraces. There is a lean-to extension along the south side, constructed with matching materials, and the roof pitch has been partly altered to accommodate a later double-doored entry.
