Description

Low Borrowdale Farmhouse and the adjoining bank barn are two structures built in 1685, marked by the initials T. & T.M., which were recorded by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments in 1936 on a two-stage cupboard that has since been dismantled. The barn, which is likely a late 18th century or early 19th century addition, is located to the left of the farmhouse. Both buildings are constructed from coursed slate rubble with quoins and are white-washed, featuring graduated slate roofs. The overall layout is 'F' shaped, with the farmhouse having two storeys and the barn being taller, comprising five bays in total (two in the house and three in the barn).

The three-bay farmhouse includes a stone central gabled porch with stone side benches and a segment-headed inner door. To the left, there are two narrow 20th century casement windows, and to the right, a single wide 20th century casement window with a segment-arched head. Above these, there are three casements with glazing bars and a fire window. The 'L' shaped barn features two segment-headed plank byre doors on the front elevation and a wagon door on the return side. A stone chimney is located at the right-hand ends of both the house and the barn. There is a lean-to garage adjoining the barn, but it is not of interest.
