Description
Greenclose is a farmhouse with adjoining barns, dating from the early 18th century. It features sandstone rubble walls beneath a sloping greenslate roof, with brick chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, with barns on either side under a common roof. There is a single-bay, two-storey extension at the rear, creating an overall T-shape. A right cross-passage plank door is set within a stone surround, and there are two-light flat stone-mullioned windows. The barns have plank doors also in stone surrounds. A Tudor-arched doorway at the rear suggests a 17th-century origin, although this wall is now covered by the extension. The front walls are partially obscured by ivy. Notably, Henry Winder, a prominent Quaker, lived here until his death in 1716 or 1717.
