Description
Townend Hall and the adjoining outbuildings are a house and outbuildings dating from 1656, as indicated by the datestone "1656/L & MP", with later alterations and additions. The structure is built of roughcast stone rubble, with the east elevation exposed, and features slate roofs. The west elevation consists of two storeys and two bays, with a gabled wing to the north and outbuildings to the south. The windows have plain surrounds, and 20th-century casements have replaced the original sashes. There is a central gabled porch with small-paned glazing in the window, which has a re-set datestone above it, along with a return entrance and a small window to the left. The building has two brick cross-axial stacks. The gabled north wing features windows with 20th-century casements on the north and east sides, along with two brick gable-end stacks. The outbuilding has an inserted entrance, while the 19th-century gable wing includes sandstone quoins, an inserted entrance, and a first-floor entrance accessed by iron steps. The rear of the building displays varied fenestration and one chamfered light, along with an entrance.
