Description

Monks Bridge is a packhorse bridge located over the River Calder to the southeast of Farthwaite Farmhouse. It is said to be medieval and associated with Calder Abbey, but it is likely from the 17th or 18th century. The bridge features gauged sandstone blocks forming a single slightly pointed arch that spans approximately 18 feet. The pathway is about 3 feet wide and consists of alternate rows of slabs that project out. There are no parapets on the bridge.
