Description

The Tower Bank Arms Public House is a building that likely dates from the 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of roughcast stone and has a slate roof. The structure is two storeys high and features three bays, with the first bay canted back, which may have been added later.

On the ground floor, there is a bay window with a hipped roof and paired sash windows with horns in the first bay. The second and third bays have sash windows, with the second bay featuring vertical glazing bars and the third bay having standard glazing bars. The first floor includes a sash window with glazing bars in the first bay and small-paned casements in the second and third bays. The entrance is situated between the second and third bays and is framed by a timber gabled porch that has a clock on the gable. The building has gable-end stacks.

The left side of the building has a gabled two-bay range at the rear, which includes a lean-to outshut that projects as a single-pitch wing, along with a gabled porch. The right side features a lean-to outshut. The rear of the building is low and built into the hillside below Hill Top.

This public house was illustrated by Beatrix Potter in 'The Tale of Jemima Puddleduck' published in 1908, and a reproduction of this illustration can be found on the inn sign on the left return.
