Description
The outbuilding located to the southeast of West Challacombe Manor dates from the 15th century and is designated as a Grade II listed structure. It features a south wall of the yard with the original main entrance, constructed from local stone that is roughly squared and coursed. There are two buttresses on the south side, and the entrance has a cracked stone lintel that once held a pair of doors, which are no longer present.
The layout includes a wall with an entrance to the south of the yard, with a west return creating an L-plan. There is an additional return and lean-tos facing into the yard, which contain the remains of 15th-century outbuildings to the east. The outbuildings consist of 18th and 19th-century lean-tos, built in two phases, featuring a pantile roof and timber lintels over the openings on the western half, which faces north into the yard and protects remnants of old plaster.
A return along the west side of the yard leads to the house, which is also protected by an east-facing 19th-century lean-to with a pantile roof and timber lintels over openings. The wall at the north end returns eastwards to terminate next to the southwest corner of the outbuildings. The eastern half of the wall facing north into the yard abuts the lean-to and outbuilding, which also contains 15th-century fabric.
