Description
Brooklands is a house located on Combe Martin High Street, dating from around 1820. It is constructed of painted rendered stone rubble and features a slate roof with gable end brick stacks. The building has a symmetrical plan, consisting of two rooms deep, with the main front room on each side of a wide central stair hall. It stands two storeys tall with a basement and has three symmetrical bays, all fitted with 12-paned hornless sash windows. The entrance is marked by a Doric porch and a six-panelled door with an overlight.
Inside, there is a dog-log staircase illuminated by a round-arched rear window. The staircase has a shaped, continuous moulded handrail complemented by a decorative wrought iron balustrade. The 19th-century joinery and cornices are mostly intact, preserving the character of the interior.
