Description

Seacroft is a mid-19th century house located on Borough Road in Combe Martin. The building is constructed from painted rendered stone rubble and features a slate roof adorned with Vitruvian scroll carved bargeboards at the right gable end and the gabled central bay. It has a small brick stack at the left gable end and twin brick stacks set diagonally on the service range to the left.

The main range of the house is nearly symmetrical in plan, with a principal room on each side of the entrance passage and an additional entrance at the left end. The lower service range extends from the left end and is set back slightly. The design is in the Seaside Gothick style, with the main range rising to two storeys plus an attic, while the service range is also two storeys.

The main range consists of three bays, with the central bay slightly projecting forward. The windows are segmental pointed arched, and the central doorway features corbelled hoodmoulds, except for the ground floor windows and hoodmoulds, which are straight-headed. The original fenestration is intact, including a single light attic window and first-floor two-light casements with margin glazing bars, although the ground floor windows were replaced in the 20th century. The central doorway has a half-glazed door with a single panel at the base and Y glazing bars in the overlight. There is also a six-panelled door at the left end.

The service range to the left retains its original fenestration, featuring pointed arched glazing bars, with all windows being two-light casements except for the ground floor on the left side, which has three lights. The right gable end of the main range also includes segmental pointed arched windows with hoodmoulds and retains original fenestration, except for the ground floor, which has a projecting 20th-century shopfront.
