Description
Saltdean is a small cottage, likely built in the late 17th century. It is constructed from rendered stone rubble and features a thatch roof with gable ends. At the rear, there is a tall lateral stone rubble stack that has a drip, a tapered cap, and offsets, which has been heightened in brick. The cottage has a two-room plan with a direct entry into the larger room on the right, which is heated by the rear lateral stack. There is a winder staircase in a projecting rear stair turret next to the left of the stack. The smaller inner room to the left is unheated. To the left of the cottage, there is a single-storey outbuilding, with the thatch roof extending over the entire range. The cottage is two storeys high and has a single two-light dormer window with eight panes per light above two small rectangular window openings, each located to the left of a plank door. The right-hand entrance door features a corrugated iron gabled canopy. There are also two-light casement windows with eight panes per light on each floor at the right gable end. The interior is not accessible. The cottage remains largely unspoilt and is situated in a picturesque location overlooking Combe Martin Bay.
