Description

The range of outbuildings to the west of Overton Hall is an outbuilding that underwent 18th-century remodeling of a 17th-century structure. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone with ashlar dressings, featuring coped gables with plain kneelers, a single gable ashlar stack with a moulded cap, and a concrete tiled roof. The building has an L-shaped layout, consisting of a 6-bay main section and a 2-bay wing at the south-west end.

The south-east elevation is two storeys high with six bays, featuring an off-centre double doorway with a depressed segmental arch and a quoined surround. The doorway has 20th-century half-glazed doors. At the north-east end, there are two altered bays with stacked 2- and 3-light flush-mullioned windows, which were originally fitted with leaded lights but now have some fixed lights. There is a doorway next to the windows with massive jambs and a lintel, along with one blocked 18th-century doorway and other inserted openings from the 19th century.

To the south-west of the double doorway, a double flight of stone steps leads to a first-floor doorway. The first floor features three slit breathers and a cruciform breather. The cross-range has 20th-century double openings in the north-east wall, and the base of the gable wall is made of massive ashlar, with hollow-chamfered surrounds to two rectangular windows, along with a corbel course indicating earlier timbering for a former covered entry.

Inside, the main 6-bay section retains a double purlin roof with queen struts and some wind braces. The remodeled end includes an inserted double hearth with a massive lintel, although one hearth is now blocked. The building is listed for its group value.
