Description
The remains of a churchyard cross, dating from the 14th century, are located about 7 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Luxborough Village. This cross is made of red sandstone and features a circular socket that is much eroded, suggesting it was originally octagonal. It has a square shaft that is deeply incised at the angles to resemble columns with incised imposts. The top of the shaft is broken off, indicating that there was likely some form of sculptural decoration above, possibly a figure in a crocketed niche standing on a corbel. The cross stands approximately 1.5 metres high.
