Description
Laneshead Cottage is a cottage that dates back to the 16th century, with later alterations and further changes made in the mid-20th century. The exterior features roughcast over rubble and some brick, topped with a double Roman tiled roof. It has a large lateral stone stack and a tall roughcast stack that rises from the eaves on the left side. The cottage has a two-cell plan and is one and a half storeys high. The chimney breast extends to the left where the wall breaks forward, and the wall above the entrance on the right is raised in brick. The windows are all 20th-century casements, with a two-light window beside the stack and two and three-light peaked door frames on the ground floor to the left, which is somewhat eroded and accessed by a flight of two steps. The dwelling is entered from the left side through a large lobby with quarry tiles. Inside, there is a framed lathe and plaster partition on the ground floor, along with chamfered beams featuring step and run-out stops. The upper storey has not been seen.
