Description

Ellicombe House is a 17th-century house, though parts of the fabric may be even earlier. It has colourwashed render and an old slate roof, with two stone ridge stacks and three tall brick stacks rising from the eaves. The north-facing principal elevation features a recessed centre and gabled projecting side wings. The wings are topped with copings and pineapple finials, and each gable face contains a wood-framed oval window. The first floor of the wings has one window, while the ground floor has two. These windows are sashes with glazing bars. The central portion of the house has a panelled front door, sheltered by a curved wooden hood supported on wrought-iron brackets. To either side of the door are sash windows with exposed frames and thick glazing bars. Above the door is a small dormer gable with coping and a pineapple. A 19th-century wing extends to the left, and is connected to the former coach house by a single-storey outbuilding. The coach house has a pantiled roof, copings with pineapples to the end gables, an oval window in the gable, a stable-type door, and a three-light leaded casement with moulded wood mullions. The garden lawn is enclosed by stone balustrading with coping and ball finials.
